Silfab Solar Fort Mill #3

On Thursday, March 12, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Silfab Solar will be performing standard testing of our emergency notification and fire alarm systems with our alarm company, in alignment with the York County Fire Marshal and notification to county and school officials. Alarms may sound intermittently during this time, with audible alarms intended for after 5 p.m. as accommodation to the school district.

This is part of our ongoing commitment to safety for our employees, the community, and the environment. There is no danger to the public.

March 11, 2026. 3:50 P.M. Silfab Solar is releasing the following update regarding its Fort Mill facility:

Silfab Solar continues to work alongside DES, local officials, and a third-party engineering firm on repair activities and tank testing. In the meantime, Silfab Solar continues with assembly operations that were restarted on March 9 ensuring that the health and safety of our employees and our community is prioritized at all times.

March 11, 2026. Silfab Solar is releasing the following update regarding its Fort Mill facility:

This morning, Silfab is commencing with repair activities in coordination with DES and local officials, and a third-party engineering firm. This work will focus on repairs resulting from the Tuesday, March 3rd event, as well as, testing tank integrity related to the HF drip.

Following the resolution passed last night, we want to provide insight into the communications on Thursday, March 5th. Silfab informed school officials prior to 5:00 pm that we had agreed to voluntarily cease all operations for Friday in consideration of their request and in the spirit of partnership with the school and community.

After being notified of this fact, school officials still made the decision to close Flint Hill Elementary School for Friday. We recognize the district’s authority to determine school activities, and appreciate York County’s confirmation that there was “no threat to the public and was verified by Emergency Management on scene.”

As part of our commitment for enhanced communication during this time, we will share further updates as they become available.

March 10, 2026. 8:30 P.M. Silfab Solar is releasing the following update regarding its Fort Mill facility:

On Monday, March 9, 2026, Silfab Solar had assessments completed by the EPA and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (DES) as well as a third-party nationally recognized engineering firm TRC Companies, that supported the decision to bring module and cell assembly production activities back online.

Regarding the hydrofluoric acid (HF) leak, DES released the following statement as confirmed by Silfab: “A tank containing hydrogen fluoride (HF) is dripping at a rate of one drop per hour, however, the drip is being neutralized and contained using three separate containment measures. Silfab is beginning the process of emptying the HF tank.”

While it is premature to speculate as to timing for restart of production activities requiring chemical deliveries or abatement activities, a precondition to doing so is DES’s comfort and approval by TRC, as an independent third-party firm, validating the safe conditions.

Silfab is working through system testing and evaluation as part of the remediation process.  The company is committed to keeping the community informed during the testing phases as to not cause undue concern or misinformation circulating. Silfab will continue to meet with key stakeholders providing updates accordingly.

Our top priority continues to be the safety and security of our employees and the community.

March 10, 2026. 8:00 A.M. Silfab Solar is releasing the following statement regarding last night’s alarm at the Fort Mill facility:

Last night at the Silfab Solar Fort Mill facility in one of the external buildings, our highly sensitive monitoring equipment activated our internal alarm.   Neighbors heard the alarm and called 911 and the Sheriff was dispatched. After inspection, the Sheriff determined there was no concern for public safety. There was no danger to employees or the community.

March 9, 2026. Silfab Solar is releasing the following statement regarding today’s visit and assessment by the EPA and DES:

Silfab Solar appreciates the visit and assessment completed by the EPA and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (DES) today. After a thorough review, DES confirmed (i) no indication that assembly operations should remain paused, and (ii) that assembly operations do not involve the use of chemicals regulated under EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP).

Silfab thanks the EPA, DES and County officials on site today and will continue to work with the authorities as appropriate.

In consultation with TRC Companies, a nationally recognized third-party engineering firm retained by Silfab and participating in today’s assessment, Silfab Solar is bringing module and cell assembly production activities back online beginning at 8 p.m. this evening.
